Prof. Islam is a regular faculty and head of the immuno-rheumatology Dept. of Rheumatology, BSMMU. He is holding the charge of course coordinator of the department at present. He received many awards, both from APLAR and EULAR. He had participated several national and international conferences as invited speaker. He has 116 publications in different national and international peer reviewed journals. He served Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology (APLAR) as Deputy Secretary and Secretary General and at present one of the Vice President of APLAR. His other involvements are Associate editor of International Journal of Rheumatic Disease (IJRD), Associate Editor of Journal of Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS), COPCORD Co coordinator, Convener APLAR Epidemiology SIG, Founder life member & at present Vice President of Bangladesh Rheumatology Society, Life member of Indian Rheumatology Association, Association of Physicians of Bangladesh.
