Michael Tee - University Of The Philippines Manila

Dr. Michael Tee is the Chancellor of the University of the Philippines Manila (UP Manila), the country’s premier health sciences university and home to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH). An academic leader, physician, and researcher, Dr. Tee has been instrumental in advancing health education, research, and policy development in the Philippines.

As a clinician-researcher, Dr. Tee has contributed to the Asia Pacific Lupus Collaboration (APLC), particularly in studies on lupus outcomes and treatment targets.

Beyond his work in rheumatology, Dr. Tee has played a crucial role in global health collaborations, previously serving as Chair of the Southeast Asian One Health University Network (SEAOHUN). In this capacity, he helped advance regional efforts in interdisciplinary health education, pandemic preparedness, and the integration of One Health principles—a collaborative approach addressing human, animal, and environmental health challenges.

As Chancellor of UP Manila, Dr. Tee has also led efforts to make health education safer and more effective through simulation-based education. By integrating advanced simulation technologies into medical and health professions training, he has championed a risk-free learning environment where students can develop clinical skills, enhance patient safety, and prepare for real-world medical challenges. His advocacy for high-fidelity simulation and outcome-based training has strengthened UP Manila’s role as a leader in health education innovation in the Asia-Pacific region.
