Dr. Tahira Perveen is a distinguished Consultant Rheumatologist, Assistant Professor, and Head of the Department of Rheumatology at Liaquat National Hospital & Medical College, Karachi. She holds MBBS, FCPS, FACR, and CHPE qualifications and has been serving at Liaquat National Hospital since 2009. A pioneer in Rheumatology education in Sindh, she played a pivotal role in establishing the first CPSP-approved Rheumatology fellowship training program in the province. Her expertise encompasses adult and paediatric rheumatology, autoimmune diseases, and inflammatory and metabolic bone disorders. She has made substantial contributions to rheumatology education, research, and academic development in Pakistan, with extensive participation at international academic forums and conferences. Her academic journey includes observership in Paediatric Rheumatology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Ohio, USA. She is a member of the APLAR Special Interest Group for Paediatric Rheumatology and has contributed to The APLAR Pulse, the official newsletter of APLAR. From 2020 to 2024, she served as the Editor-in-Chief of the official newsletter of the Pakistan Society for Rheumatology and is Editor-in-Chief of all three editions of Into the Rivers of Rheumatology. Her scholarly contributions include numerous scientific publications and a chapter on Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) in Autoimmune Diseases, published by Springer Nature Switzerland in 2026. She has also received prestigious Gold Medal Awards, including the Quaid-e-Azam Gold Medal, Major Shabbir Shareef Shaheed Gold Medal, and Mian Muhammad Yousuf Social Leader Gold Medal in 2015. Currently serving as President of the Pakistan Society for Rheumatology, she continues to contribute actively to clinical care, postgraduate education, research, scientific writing, and professional leadership in Rheumatology.
