Professor Rebecca Grainger is an academic rheumatologist and Professor of Medicine at the University of Otago, Wellington, New Zealand, where she is Head of the Department of Medicine. She is also Clinical Head of Rheumatology at Hutt Hospital. Her research focuses on digital health, patient education and communication, and improving the delivery of care for people with rheumatic diseases. She has led and collaborated on international research examining the use of digital technologies in rheumatology, including social media, mobile health, telehealth and artificial intelligence. Her work increasingly focuses on how emerging technologies can be translated into safe, equitable and effective clinical practice. She is actively involved in rheumatology education, workforce development and health-service leadership in New Zealand and has contributed to national and international rheumatology initiatives, guidelines and research collaborations.
