A/Prof. Joshua Ooi, is an Australian NHMRC Leadership Fellow and Head of the Regulatory T cell Therapies Group at Monash University. A/Prof. Ooi is an expert in the immunoregulation mechanisms underpinning autoimmune diseases evidenced by >100 publications (>4800 citations), granted PCT patents, and prestigious national and international awards including the Victoria Prize for Science and Innovation, the Dr. John Dixon Hughes OAM Medal and the Mosaic of Autoimmunity Award. A/Prof. Ooi has obtained >A$20M in research funding as principal investigator from government grants, industry partnerships and philanthropic organisations. A/Prof. Ooi’s ability to develop immunotherapies to treat autoimmune kidney diseases, particularly in ANCA-associated vasculitis is highlighted in his high-impact first/last publications: e.g. PNAS 2012, JCI 2013, Nature 2017, Nat Comms 2019, Nat Comms 2024, Kidney Int 2025. His work elucidates the target epitopes in disease and he has developed various cell-based therapies that specifically inhibits the pathogenic autoreactive response.
