Dr Khan is a Senior Consultant Rheumatologist with extensive clinical, academic, and leadership experience across the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Pakistan. He has held consultant posts in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, managing complex rheumatological and multisystem autoimmune diseases within multidisciplinary settings. 
He completed specialist training in rheumatology in the UK and holds a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, and Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. His clinical expertise includes connective tissue diseases, vasculitis, inflammatory arthritis, biologic therapies, and musculoskeletal ultrasound, alongside a strong commitment to education, research and patient-centred care. 
Dr Khan has played a key role in advancing rheumatology services internationally. He was instrumental in establishing modern rheumatology services in Northern Pakistan, where he led training initiatives and established the first ever Rheumatology Department accredited by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan for Rheumatology Training.
He currently serves as Convenor of the Genetics Special Interest Group of the Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology (APLAR), where he promotes collaborative research, education, and guideline development in genetics and rheumatic diseases across the Asia-Pacific region. His academic interests include genetics in rheumatoid arthritis, epidemiology of rheumatic diseases, and the integration of innovation and technology into clinical care.
Dr Khan also serves as MRCP PACES Examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
