Eun Young Lee, MD, PhD is a Professor in the Division of Rheumatology at Seoul National University College of Medicine. She is a renowned physician-scientist specializing in refractory rheumatic diseases, including ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and inflammatory myopathy. Dr. Lee has demonstrated outstanding academic leadership, serving as the former President of the Korean Spondyloarthropathy Study Group (2020-2022) and currently as the President of the Myositis Study Group under the Korean College of Rheumatology.
Her research focuses on identifying novel pathogenic mechanisms and precision therapeutic strategies using multi-omics approaches. She has led significant cohorts, such as the KORAIL (interstitial lung disease in RA), and has pioneered innovative treatments including mitochondrial transplantation. Recently, her work has centered on type 1 interferon signatures and their role in TNF inhibitor resistance in AS.
Dr. Lee has published over 300 peer-reviewed articles in prestigious journals such as Nature Communications and Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases. In recognition of her academic contributions, she was honored with the 2025 Korean College of Rheumatology Academic Award.
