Dr. Tomohisa Okamura is a Project Professor in the Department of Functional Genomics and Immunological Diseases at the University of Tokyo. His research focuses on basic human immunology, particularly the roles of immune cells in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases. He obtained his M.D. and Ph.D. from Tottori University Faculty of Medicine, Japan, where he also completed postdoctoral training. Following his residency in Internal Medicine, he served as Senior Resident in Rheumatology at the Institute of Rheumatology, Tokyo Women’s Medical University. In 2005, he joined the Department of Allergy and Rheumatology at the University of Tokyo, contributing to the establishment of the ImmuNexUT database. Since 2024, he has held his current position. His research primarily investigates T cell-mediated immune mechanisms in autoimmune diseases. He identified a novel CD4+ T cell subset, age-associated helper T (ThA) cells, and continues exploring human immunology using multi-omics approaches, including flow cytometry and RNA sequencing.
