Shin-Seok Lee is a professor in the Division of Rheumatology, Department of Internal Medicine, Chonnam National University Medical School & Hospital, Gwangju, Korea.
Professor Lee obtained his MD degree from the Chonnam National University Medical School in 1989, then went on to train in internal medicine at the Chonnam National University Hospital, and in rheumatology at Kangnam St Mary’s Hospital, The Catholic University of Korea, Seoul. From 2005 to 2007, he underwent postdoctoral fellowship training in the Division of Rheumatology, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland, USA. He has taught at this alma mater since 1999, gradually rising in the ranks from clinical instructor to his present position, to which he was appointed in March 2013.
Professor Lee’s work has appeared in numerous local and international rheumatology journals. He is a member of the Korean Medical Association, the Korean Association of Internal Medicine, the Korean College of Rheumatology, the American College of Rheumatology, and the Asian Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology.
Professor Lee previously served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Korean College of Rheumatology and has held leadership positions in several key groups. He chaired the Korean Fibromyalgia Study Group (2007–2017), the Korean Society of Pulmonary Hypertension (2019–2020), and the Korean Society of Sjögren’s Syndrome (2018–2024). Currently, he leads the Korean Rare Disease Study Group. In addition, he serves as the Scientific Committee Chair at APLAR and is the Congress Chair for APLAR 2026.
