Prof Altekreeti works as an Emeritus Professor in Rheumatology at the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad.

Member of the British Society of Rheumatology, Vice president of the Iraqi Society of Rheumatic Diseases, Member of Iraqi Society of Osteoporosis. Member of the Iraqi Chest and Cardiovascular Society. Member of Iraqi Hypertension Society.
He was awarded the APLAR Masters Award 2018 in Taiwan. He is a member of Gout/Crystal arthropathy SIG of APLAR. An active participant and invited speaker in many APLAR regional conferences as well as conferences of the Pan-Arab League of Associations of Rheumatology. He has more than 120 publications in medical journals.
He has passion for Arabic Literature and published five autobiography books that depict his journey in life and career over the past years. His book (Auto-Stop) won the Iraqi National Award for Literature in 2021.
