Tatsuya Atsumi, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine, Hokkaido University in Japan, and the head of the Department of Rheumatology, Endocrinology and Nephrology. After graduating at Hokkaido University in 1988, he has spent most of his carrier as a researcher in Sapporo, except 3 years in the Lupus Unit, St. Thomas’ hospital in London (1994-1997). His research interest includes clinical and basic aspect of systemic autoimmune diseases such as antiphospholipid syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis. He is currently playing a role as a chair of the systemic lupus erythematosus guideline committee in Japan.
He has over 700 research publications dealing with several aspects including rheumatology, in particular, with the pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of antiphospholipid syndrome.
