Dr. Kurata is a board-certified cardiologist and pathologist with a PhD in vascular biology. After graduating from Ehime University School of Medicine in Japan, she was appointed as a research fellow in the Department of Experimental Cardiology at Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, from 2012 to 2014, where she investigated animal models of atherosclerosis. She subsequently continued her research in Ehime, focusing on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of vascular injury. Currently, Dr. Kurata serves as a supervising pathologist in general surgical pathology, balancing a high-volume diagnostic workload with an active research program aimed at elucidating the pathways underlying cell injury and tissue damage. Her expertise in cardiovascular pathology underpins her role as a research collaborator for the Japan Research Committee of the Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare for Intractable Vasculitis (JPVAS), where she provides specialized clinicopathological evaluations and expert consultations for diagnostically challenging vasculitis cases, contributing to both scientific advancement and improved patient care.
