Fabrizio De Benedetti is a physician scientist. He received his MD PhD and trained in Pediatrics and in Pediatric Rheumatology in Italy. After spending 2 years at the US National Institutes of Health, he worked in Pavia, Italy, at the Department of Pediatrics. He has been at the Bambino Gesù Children Hospital in Rome since 2003, where he serves as Head of the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology, of the Laboratory of ImmunoRheumatology and of the Research Department of Immunology. His clinical activity is focused on the management of pediatric rheumatic diseases. Since his first publication on interleukin-6 in sJIA in 1991, his main clinical and research interest have been Still’s disease and MAS, focusing on pathogenesis and biomarkers. This research led Professor De Benedetti to design and lead, as international principal investigator, pivotal registration trials. He has led 12 phase II and III trials with innovative targeted therapies.
