Artificial Intelligence in Rheumatology: Practical Use, Honest Limits

Synopsis:

This interactive workshop explores the practical use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in rheumatology, with a strong focus on critical thinking, safety, and real-world applicability. Moving beyond the hype, the session will equip participants with the skills to integrate AI tools into clinical, academic, and educational workflows in a rigorous and responsible manner.
Through a combination of guided discussions and hands-on exercises, participants will gain experience in applying structured prompting techniques and verification frameworks to improve the quality and reliability of AI-generated outputs. Emphasis will be placed on critically appraising content for accuracy, bias, and safety—ensuring that GenAI is used as a supportive tool rather than a substitute for professional judgement.
The workshop is designed to be inclusive and practical across diverse healthcare settings. It recognises the potential of GenAI to extend capabilities in environments without local subspecialty expertise, while reinforcing the importance of robust verification practices. All activities are tool-agnostic and jurisdiction-aware, ensuring relevance across different clinical guidelines and healthcare systems. To enhance accessibility and resilience, all exercises are supported by offline materials, allowing full participation regardless of connectivity.
By the end of the session, participants will be better equipped to confidently and responsibly incorporate GenAI into their practice, with a clear understanding of both its opportunities and limitations.
