Reframing Long-Term SLE Care in Asia: Reducing Steroid Burden and Advancing Organ Protection

Objectives:
This scientific symposium will address contemporary management challenges in SLE in Asia, with emphasis on minimizing cumulative glucocorticoid exposure and preventing organ damage. Faculty will review disease burden and the clinical consequences of prolonged glucocorticoid use, then examine mechanism‑based treatment strategies with a focus on B‑cell biology and evidence supporting BLyS inhibition and other B‑cell–directed approaches. A dedicated segment will discuss lupus nephritis, outlining the rationale and practical considerations for early, intensive combination (“triple”) therapy to support timely disease control and renal protection. A moderated discussion will integrate key takeaways and translate evidence into pragmatic considerations for routine practice across Asia.
