Inoshi Atukorala is the Professor in Rheumatology at the Department of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Colombo. She is also the Honorary Consultant Rheumatologist at the University Medical Unit, National Hospital Sri Lanka.
Graduating from the University of Colombo with First Class (Honours) in 1999, she topped her batch and won 19 medals and prizes. Among them were the Award for Best Student from the Faculty of Medicine and the Student of the Year Award for Excellence in Academic Studies and Sportsmanship from the University of Colombo.
Inoshi completed her MD (Clinical Medicine) in 2005 and received the John Stokes Gold Medal for Best Performance at the Examination. Her specialist training was at the Nuffield Department of Rheumatology/Musculoskeletal Sciences, Oxford, and National Hospital Sri Lanka, while her research training was at the Institute of Bone and Joint Research, University of Sydney. She obtained her PhD in 2021
Inoshi has received multiple awards for her research, including the Presidential Award for Research in Sri Lanka. Her work has focused on osteoarthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus, and she has published extensively in high-impact journals, including the highest-impact journals for research in rheumatology. Inoshi is a member of the editorial board of BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders. She has contributed chapters to several textbooks, including Manson’s Tropical Diseases and the Oxford Textbook of Orthopaedics.
