Visa FAQs

Nationals of about 170 countries and territories may visit Hong Kong visa-free for a period ranging from 7 days to 180 days. Click here to learn whether you need a visa or entry permit to enter Hong Kong for a visit or transit.

If you are a speaker supported by APLAR it is still acceptable for you to apply under a visitor visa, refer to this page for specifics: https://www.immd.gov.hk/eng/services/visas/permissible-activities.html

Speech(es) / presentation(s)

A person permitted to enter the HKSAR as a visitor may also attend event(s) to deliver speech(es)/presentation(s) subject to the following conditions being met:

  1. he/she will not be remunerated for speaking/presenting at the event (other than provision of accommodation, passage, meals, etc. relating to the event, or the reimbursement of such expenses),
  2. during each period of permitted stay, there is no maximum limit on the number of event(s), he/she can attend to deliver speech(es)/presentation(s) up to 14 consecutive calendar days, counting from the day when he/she starts to participate in such event(s).

As APLAR does not provide an honorarium, speakers can attend HK through a VISITORS visa.

It is strongly recommended you still check with your local embassy on your requirements. The congress organisers are not visa specialists and only provide general information and not specific to individual counties. See direct link for further information: https://www.immd.gov.hk/eng/services/visas/permissible-activities.html

The congress does not take responsibility if your visa is rejected or not received in time. It is the responsibility of the attendee to ensure all measures are met for their origin.

If you are travelling from a country listed on PART II of this website: https://www.immd.gov.hk/eng/services/visas/visit-transit/visit-visa-entry-permit.html and it states a Visa required, you must apply at your local embassy and follow their instructions.

If relevant, please complete the online application here: https://cova.mfa.gov.cn/qzCoCommonController.do?show&pageId=001&locale=en_US.

The Immigration website does state if you are attending an exhibition that a visitor visa is acceptable, however please ensure you check this with your local embassy.

Business-related activities

A person permitted to enter the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (“HKSAR”) as a visitor may generally engage in the following business-related activities:

    4. settling compensation or other civil proceedings;
    5. participating in product orientation; and
    6. attending short-term seminars or other business meetings.

If you require a visa invitation letter, please register for the congress and select that you require an invitation letter. You must have paid for your registration before the invitation letter is sent.

  1. holds an Indian passport valid for at least six months; and
  2. intends to visit or transit (except in direct transit by air and not leaving the airport transit area) the HKSAR for a stay not exceeding 14 days.

Those who are eligible to register, visit this website: https://www.gov.hk/en/apps/immdes2indianparreg.htm

FAQs

If your circumstances have changed and you can no longer attend the Congress in-person or wish to now attend physically, you can change your registration from in-person to virtual and be refunded the difference, up until Monday 05 December 2022, midnight CET for a handling fee of 40 USD per registration. After this date, any cancellations must be made in writing and refunds will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Converting to a hybrid event will allow attendees who cannot join us physically in Hong Kong, due to travel restrictions as a result of the pandemic or its economic impact, attend the Congress virtually. All main scientific program sessions will be streamed to a virtual platform and made accessible for a both in-person and remote delegates.

APLAR will not be able to cover the cost of hotel quarantine. If you are obliged to participate in mandatory hotel quarantine, prior arrangements will need to be made at the expense of the individual and self-organised.

If you test positive during your visit to Hong Kong and do not wish to pay for hotel quarantine, or require additional care, the Government will permit you to an isolation facility at no additional cost. The government adopts a risk-based approach to decide appropriate quarantine premises (such as homes, hotels or other premises) for different groups of inbound travellers.

If you have booked your accommodation through the Congress website, please see below the cancellation deadlines in order to receive a full refund.

Grand Hyatt Hong Kong: After 4 November 2022, any cancellation, amendment and no shows will be charged entire stay as penalty.

St. Regis Hong Kong: Any individuals room cancellation or amendment is required before Friday 18 November 2022, otherwise a cancellation charge of entire period will be applied.
